So by now, the great swarms of you who regularly and borderline-obsessively check this site have noticed that it’s gone through something of a superficial facelift (because there are other kinds). You may also have noticed that some of the functionalities in the old site are no longer here (broken links, in other words). You may be thinking to yourself, “What the hell is all this about?” That’s what I’m here to discuss.
Let me put it this way: the old site was old. It was older than dirt. It’s been up and almost completely unchanged for more than four years.
The long-term intention is to revamp this site with cool new widgets and doodads; gizmos and whirligigs. I’ll be honest; that might not happen for a while, mainly because we’d have to make some major changes to the infrastructure supporting the site. We’ve also got to figure out what kinds of things we want to make this site do. In the meantime, we’re settling for something that doesn’t look entirely like it was made in the nineties, and making sure the information on the thing is all up-to-date and accurate.
In addition to the dusting, we’ve also started doing some pruning. Let’s face it, here; that photo request form probably never worked. There are also some places where the information was so sparse that it was better off in another part of the site. I’m striving to ensure that no vital information is lost during this transition from old to new.
Which brings me to my next point: feedback. The best way for me to know if something needs changing is if I get an e-mail about it. If you notice that there’s an important piece of information that’s gone AWOL, or even if you don’t like the design, fire off an e-mail, let me know. Oh, there are a couple of exceptions; namely, things I already know about, like the incomplete staff list (I don’t have a list in front of me), or the broken "Gallery" and "Request a Photo" links (they're still there so they can take up space). Other than that, fair game. This concludes our special bulletin, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
Sincerely,
Will McLain, webmaster
