A Contemporary Theatre

ACT has been finding, building and sharing contemporary theatre with audiences since 1965. ACT made history as the first theatre dedicated to new plays in Seattle. And it's still making history as the most welcoming development house for new plays around. With multiple stages and diversity of work, ACT keeps you intimately involved with new theatre.

INTIMAN Theatre

INTIMAN Theatre, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2002, is one of the premiere performing arts companies in the Pacific Northwest. Founded by Margaret Booker in 1972 and now the leadership of Artistic Director Bartlett Sher and Managing Director Laura Penn, INTIMAN produces the work of innovative writers, directors, designers and performers who are masters of their craft.

Seattle Repertory Theatre

Seattle Repertory Theatre, founded in 1963, is led by Artistic Director Sharon Ott and Managing Director Ben Moore. One of America's premier non-profit resident theatres, Seattle Repertory Theatre has achieved international renown for its consistently high production and artistic standards, and was awarded the 1990 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. With an emphasis on entertaining plays of true dramatic and literary worth, Seattle Rep produces a season of nine plays in its two stages along with educational programs and a new play workshop series.

Tacoma Actor's Guild

Tacoma Actors Guild (TAG), a resident professional theater company, is dedicated to producing a broad spectrum of high quality contemporary and classical dramatic works, emphasizing language-driven, ensemble productions. TAG seeks to achieve its professional productions in a grassroots climate of participation and inclusion across all segments of our community.

The Empty Space Theatre

The Empty Space Theatre strives to make theatre an event - bold, provocative, celebratory - bringing audiences and artists to a common ground through an uncommon experience. Located in Seattle, Washington in the heart of the Fremont neighborhood, The Empty Space Theatre is home to world-caliber plays and premieres and is proud to feature the talents of local actors, playwrights, directors, and crew members.

Book-It Repertory Theatre

Book-It Repertory Theatre began in 1990 as a company of actors touring throughout Washington, performing at social service agencies, schools, community centers, and libraries. In the unique Book-It style that preserves the narrative text as it is spoken, not by a single “narrator” but as dialogue by the characters in the production, actors performed short stories and reached many audiences who had never seen live theatre. The subject matter of the stories encouraged discussion of topical issues and inspired audiences to read. Book-It’s main goal has always been to bring classic and contemporary writing to the stage and convert literary works into theatre. By bringing books to the stage, Book-It’s performances directly address the issue of literacy by striving to make the joy of reading accessible to everyone. Performing books instead of plays allows the Book-It theatre experience to spark the audience’s interest in reading and to challenge the audience to participate by using their imaginations.

The Grand Cinema

The Grand Cinema shows independent, foreign, and art films in a non-profit venue located inside the Merlino Art Center, Tacoma, WA.
