Fall 2006 Performances

Moonlight and Magnolias
Intiman Theatre
Sunday, September 24th at 12:30pm

Hollywood, 1939: Producer David O. Selznick has shut down production on the film everyone tells him can’t be made, Gone With the Wind. Desperate, but also determined, he brings in rewrite man Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming to save the big-budget epic. Out of this scenario, playwright Ron Hutchinson creates a delicious comedy that takes us behind-the-scenes for a look at how entertainment, power and politics came together to create one of America’s legendary films.

Moon Over Buffalo
Tacoma Actors Guild
Sunday, October 1st at 12:30pm

If you enjoyed last season’s Noises Off, you’ll be head over heels for Moon Over Buffalo. Written by the author of Lend Me A Tenor, this backstage farce brought Carol Burnett back to Broadway as Charlotte Hay, an aging thespian longing for a shot at the big screen. She endures a love/hate relationship with her husband and acting partner George, who has delusions of grandeur in his head and often a bottle of alcohol in his hand. Fate gives these two one last shot at performing for Frank Capra in the hopes of landing starring roles in Hollywood’s The Scarlett Pimpernel. In true farce, no one knows if George will show up drunk, if Charlotte will stay or run off with her agent, if Frank is really Frank and if the troupe will perform Cyrano de Bergerac, Private Lives or a disturbing mixture of the two! Moon Over Buffalo is bursting with mistaken identities, madcap misadventures and hilarious misunderstandings. "Hilarious ... building up its laughs methodically shtick by shtick ... Ludwig stuffs his play with comic invention, running gags ... and a neat sense of absurdity. ... Go and enjoy." N.Y. Post.

Doubt
Seattle Repertory Theatre
Saturday, October 21st at 6:00pm

John Patrick Shanley’s 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning Doubt (it also won the Tony Award as best play that same year) is a riveting exploration of paranoia and suspicion in the Catholic Church. Set in a Bronx parochial school in 1964—just as the Vatican II reforms begin to transfigure the Church—evidence of a priest’s wrongdoing comes to light. Sister Aloysius, a strict school principal and traditionalist nun, faces the decision of a lifetime: Does she openly accuse a priest and give voice to her fear of his sinful actions, or does she bury her suspicions and leave room for doubt? This intense and personal power struggle between Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn ultimately calls into question both faith and justice in the shadows of this cloistered institution.

The Underpants
A Contemporary Theatre
Sunday, November 5th at 6:00pm

The Underpants, concocted by comic genius Steve Martin, is a hilarious, sophisticated adaptation of Carl Sternheim's classic 1910 farce about a housewife who becomes an overnight celebrity when she accidentally loses her underpants in public. Chaos follows in this witty comedy that explores fidelity, sexuality and hidden desire.

A tour de force for some of Seattle's funniest guys and gals that will win your heart and tickle your funny bone.

Black Nativity
Intiman Theatre
Saturday, December 2nd at 6:30pm

Join us during the holiday season for our annual production of Black Nativity: A Gospel Song Play, directed by Jacqueline Moscou and choreographed by Kabby Mitchell III. Black Nativity encompasses thrilling musical performances led by Seattle's own "Gospel Queen," Pastor Patrinell Wright; resonant observations on our world by the Reverend Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, pastor emeritus of the Mount Zion Baptist Church; and the beautiful poetry of Langston Hughes, one of our foremost American artists and an impassioned voice for social justice. Featuring an on-stage band, electrifying modern dancers and the vocal talents of some of the region's most awe-inspiring gospel singers, Black Nativity is a hand-clapping, roof-raising musical celebration and holiday favorite for audiences of all ages and faiths.
